Paperwork Guide
Paperwork is where private car sales go wrong and where professional buyers earn their keep. When you sell to us, we bring a proper bill of sale to every pickup and walk through it with you before anyone signs anything.
With more than 10,000 cars bought across South Florida, our drivers have handled every paperwork situation: lost titles, name mismatches, estate sales, and lien payoffs. You do not need to figure it out alone.
A vehicle bill of sale does not need to be complicated, but it does need to be complete. At minimum it should identify the buyer and seller by full legal name and address, describe the vehicle by year, make, model, and VIN, state the sale price, record the odometer reading, give the date of sale, and carry the signatures of both parties.
The VIN is the most important line on the page. It must match the VIN on the title and on the car itself. A single wrong digit can void the usefulness of the whole document, so copy it carefully from the title rather than from memory.
Use full legal names as they appear on IDs, plus current addresses. If the buyer is a business, use its legal business name. This removes any doubt about who the parties were.
Year, make, model, color, and the full 17-character VIN. The VIN ties the document to one specific car, which is exactly what you want if the car is ever traced back to the sale date.
State the agreed price, the odometer reading at the time of sale, and the date. Both parties sign. For junk cars sold as-is, add a short as-is clause stating the vehicle is sold without warranty.
The most common mistake is skipping the document entirely because the buyer seemed trustworthy. Trust is fine; paperwork is better. The second most common is an incomplete VIN or a missing odometer reading, both of which weaken the document if you ever need it.
Another frequent error is leaving the buyer section blank, sometimes at the buyer's request. Never do this. An open bill of sale means the car could be resold without ever being titled in between, and problems from that period can trace back to you.
This page describes standard practice for vehicle bills of sale in Florida, not legal advice for your specific situation. If your sale involves complications like a disputed title, an estate, or a divorce settlement, consider checking with a qualified professional.

Yes, even for a junk car. Some sellers assume a car with little value does not need paperwork, but the bill of sale protects you regardless of the price. It proves when ownership transferred, which matters if the car is ever traced back to your ownership period.
When you sell to us, the bill of sale is automatic. We bring it to every pickup, complete it with you, and leave you a signed copy. One less thing for you to prepare or worry about.
